Literacy for Kids, Inc. hosted a Teacher Back to School Event on Tuesday, August 20th. This open house forum, where Greater Detroit Area elementary teachers were invited, was our first LFK project. We wanted to introduce ourselves and offer teachers a celebratory bag of goodies and resources to start off the new school year. Refreshments, dinosaur cookies, lesson plans for the DLIMH book series, discounted books, and teacher resource material were some of the perks available. The new complimentary CCSS.ELA-Literacy Lesson Plans K-3 for the award-winning Dinosaurs Living in My Hair book series, helps teachers use our books in their classrooms more...
The DLIMH team loves Amelia Island, Florida. We also love The Book Loft. This Indie Bookstore has been in business for over thirty years. Its proximity to the local ice cream shop certainly helps business. The book shop stays open well after other stores close. The staff is incredible, their selection top notch, and the setting picturesque. Heather is behind the camera and responsible for this event running so smoothly! Great photos by her - unfortunately no photos of her. xo
We spent the day with over four hundred K-3rd at PACE Academy. We rhymed, we read poetry, we learned about Maya Angelou and being "a rainbow in somebody's cloud," we reviewed beat and rhythm, we spoke about the value of reading, we considered the relevance of an illustrator and how significant illustrations are to a story, we talked about the new South African dinosaur recently discovered, we examined animals alive today who lived alongside dinosaurs, we discussed ways to stand up to bullying, and we celebrated the word "I M A G I N A T I O N!"
